From Recognition to Validation: Why 2026 Marks a Turning Point for vGreen

2026 is becoming a year of validation for vGreens.

Over the past months, our work has been recognized across several international reports, awards, and innovation programs spanning FoodTech, DeepTech, Artificial Intelligence, and AgriTech.

From being named among the Top 20 DeepTech Startups in Europe by Deeptech Insider, to receiving the AI Integration Excellence Award 2025, to once again joining the global FoodTech 500 ranking, these recognitions reflect more than individual milestones.

For us, they point toward a broader shift already underway:

Food production is moving from infrastructure-driven agriculture toward biology-driven production systems.

A new understanding of agricultural technology

For decades, innovation in controlled environment agriculture has focused mainly on infrastructure: better lighting, improved climate systems, irrigation, automation, and operational efficiency.

All of this matters.

But one core challenge remains: plants are highly dynamic biological systems.

They respond, adapt, signal, and change continuously. And if we want to make food production more predictable, resilient, and resource-efficient, we need to understand these biological processes much more precisely.

At vGreens, we believe the next generation of food production will not be defined by infrastructure alone.

It will be defined by the ability to understand, interpret, and predict plant behavior through data.

This is the foundation of vGreens Lab.

By combining sensing technologies, hyperspectral imaging, Short Wave Infrared data, and AI-based models, we are building systems that translate plant metabolism into real-time production intelligence.

The goal is not simply environmental control.

The goal is predictable growth.

Recognition across industries

This direction is increasingly being recognized across industries and technology sectors.

In 2026, vGreens was named one of Europe’s “20 Emerging Innovators to Watch” in Greentech by Deeptech Insider, alongside companies operating across AI, robotics, biotech, and cleantech.

We were also honored with the AI Integration Excellence Award 2025 by the Global Investors Forum, recognizing our approach of embedding AI directly into biological production systems — not as an external analytics layer, but as a core operational technology.

At the same time, being recognized for the third consecutive year in the FoodTech 500 ranking by Forward Fooding highlights the growing relevance of predictive, resource-efficient production models within the global food system.

And with our feature in the StartingUp AgriTech Startup Report 2026, we see another strong signal: a new category is emerging at the intersection of biology, AI, and controlled environment agriculture.

For us, these recognitions are encouraging because they show that the conversation around agricultural technology is evolving.

It is no longer only about how we control the growing environment.

It is about how we understand the plant itself.

Research, robotics, and the next generation of agriculture

Beyond recognitions, we continue to expand our technological foundation through research and collaboration.

With the launch of the AgriKult project, funded through the NEXT.IN.NRW innovation program by the EU and the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, we are working together with the University of Bonn and AI.Land to explore how biotechnology, robotics, and AI can reshape plant propagation.

The project focuses on scalable, sterile, and partially automated propagation systems designed to improve plant quality, resilience, and production efficiency.

For us, this is an important next step.

Because if the future of agriculture is more data-driven, more resource-efficient, and more resilient, then plant propagation is one of the places where this future begins.

It is where biology, technology, and production meet at the very start of the value chain.

Looking ahead

We are deeply grateful for every recognition, every collaboration, and every partner who supports this journey.

But awards alone are never the goal.

What matters is what these signals represent: a growing realization that food production is entering a new technological era.

An era where understanding biology in real time becomes one of the most valuable layers in agriculture.

An era where AI is not only used to analyze production from the outside, but to help build smarter, more responsive, and more predictable biological production systems.

And we are excited to continue building exactly that.

Together with our partners, our team, and the growing ecosystem around us.

This is only the beginning.
